Erste Ausgabe des bedeutenden expressionistischen Almanachs, erschien in 1200 Exemplaren. - "The philosophy behind this almanac is one of the most important concepts of the twentieth century art scene" (Reed). - " .. one of the most important German books of modern art. In 1911 Kandinsky and Marc edited this volume, which was first published in 1912 .. It also contains contributions by other artists in various fields, including drawings and an article on music by Arnold Schönberg. The Blaue Reiter group took its name from this publication by two of its founders. The 1912 and 1914 editions differ in the Marc color reproduction Pferde." (E. Kandinsky hier im dritten Zustand in den Farben Blau, Rot und Schwarz für die in Leinen gebundenen Exemplare der Erstausgabe (Roethel 141/III). - Obere rechte Ecke mit Knickspuren, die ersten 63 S. oben am Schnitt tlw. bis in den w. Rand mit kl. Tintenfleck, 1 Schutzpapier mit Randläsuren, vord. flieg. Vorsatz mit hs. Besitzvermerk. Ränder und Rücken leicht angeschmutzt, Kanten tlw. leicht bestoßen. Insgesamt schönes Exemplar der berühmten expressionistischen Publikation.

First edition of the famous expressionist publication. 4 plates colored by hand, 3 music plates and numerous illustrations. Original cloth with woodcut illustration by W. Kandinsky, printed in blue, red and black. - Upper right corner with crease, the first 63 pages with small inkstain to edge, partly touching the white margin, 1 protective paper with marginal defects, front flying endpaper with ms. ownership entry. Edges and spine slightly soiled, edges partly slightly bumped. Overall fine and clean copy of the famous publication.
